The Attorney General’s Office is strengthening oversight of village fund management across various regions following continued corruption cases involving local and village officials.

Reda Manthovani, the Attorney General’s Communications Advisor, stated that oversight is being conducted through collaboration with Village Consultative Bodies (BPD) to ensure transparent management of village finances. This programme was presented during a Ramadan safari activity in Karawang Regency on Friday, 13 March 2026.

In response to this measure, Ahmad Sahroni, Deputy Chair of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, expressed his full support for the Attorney General’s efforts to strengthen oversight and prevent potential corruption in village fund management.

“I fully support the Attorney General’s step to maximise oversight of village funds. Because lately we have seen increasingly unusual corruption practices. There are village chiefs using funds for gambling, cockfighting and so on. Yet the primary purpose of village funds is clear: to bring prosperity to village communities, not to enrich village chiefs,” Sahroni said in a statement released on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Sahroni also urged the Attorney General to continue providing guidance to village chiefs so that village fund management can be regulated properly and transparently.

“In addition to oversight, I also encourage the Attorney General, together with relevant parties, to create preventive breakthroughs. For example, by continuing to provide strict assistance to village chiefs in managing village funds and preparing correct financial reports. So they are guided continuously. If after that they still try to seek loopholes, it means they have bad intentions and must be dealt with firmly,” Sahroni stated.
