Sahroni Speaks After Returning as Commission III Deputy Chair
NasDem Party politician Ahmad Sahroni visited the House of Representatives complex today to attend his formal appointment as Deputy Chair of Commission III. Sahroni confirmed that his previously inactive membership status had been restored.
"It seems so (that I'm back as a DPR member)," Sahroni said at the DPR complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 19 February 2026.
When approached, Sahroni had just emerged from a Commission III meeting room where the handover ceremony for his new position had taken place. During the meeting, chaired by DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Sahroni was appointed Deputy Chair of the Legal Affairs Commission, replacing Rusdi Masse Mappasessu, who had resigned from both the DPR and NasDem Party.
Sahroni offered few comments about his return to Senayan. "All is well," he said when asked about his feelings.
As a Commission III leader, he said he would carry out the same duties as before his suspension. Sahroni claimed he intended to focus on defending members of the public facing legal issues.
"There are plenty of issues — cases involving ordinary people that need defending," he said.
Separately, DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad also confirmed that Sahroni had returned to active duty as a DPR member. "He's active again, of course," said the Gerindra Party daily chairman at the DPR on Thursday.
During the plenary meeting, Dasco stated that Sahroni's appointment was based on a letter from the NasDem faction leadership, numbered FNasdem107/DPR RI/II/2026, dated 12 February 2026, regarding the replacement of the Commission III deputy chair.
Sahroni first served as Commission III Deputy Chair during the 2019 term, continuing into the 2024 term before being moved to Commission I following controversial remarks.
During the wave of demonstrations in August 2025, Sahroni was suspended by the NasDem Party Tribunal for statements deemed offensive and injurious to public sentiment. He received an ethics sanction from the DPR's Honorary Council, resulting in a six-month suspension from active duty.
On 4 September 2025, NasDem appointed Rusdi Masse to replace Sahroni's position on Commission III. Rusdi has since switched allegiance to the Indonesian Solidarity Party.
