Sahroni Says Police Bill Could Become Government Initiative Proposal
Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Ahmad Sahroni, stated that the revision to the Law on the Indonesian National Police (RUU Polri) has the potential to become a government initiative proposal.
He explained that the government already has the Police Reform Acceleration Commission (KPRP), which previously submitted its recommendation results directly to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
“If this is the case, it becomes a government initiative because there is a reform team,” Sahroni said on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.
Sahroni noted that the DPR RI is currently in recess. According to him, the RUU Polri is likely to be processed soon after entering the next session period.
On the other hand, Sahroni said that the KPRP’s recommendation for the police to remain under the President is the right step. He assessed that placing the police under a ministry is impossible.
“It is already very appropriate that the police is under the President and the appointment system is also through the DPR,” he said.
According to him, the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) must also be truly professional in overseeing the Bhayangkara Corps. He hopes that the police can truly continue to professionally protect society.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto received the final report and recommendations from the Indonesian National Police Reform Acceleration Commission (Polri), submitted by Jimly Asshiddiqie as Chairman of the Commission at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.
The President received several books, including those titled “Bridge of Aspirations for Polri Reform” and “Follow-up on Recommendations”, as monitored in the Presidential Secretariat’s upload.
The submission was also attended by members of the Police Reform Acceleration Commission, namely Ahmad Dofiri, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, Otto Hasibuan, Supratman Andi Agtas, and Mahfud MD.
