Sahroni: Rising Public Trust Proof of Police Performance Impact

Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Commission III, Ahmad Sahroni, assessed that the increase in public trust in the Indonesian National Police (Polri), based on the results of a Litbang Kompas survey, shows that the institution’s performance has had a positive impact and is directly felt by the public. “The high level of public trust shows that Polri’s hard work is genuinely felt by the community,” Sahroni said in a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday. According to him, the increase in public trust cannot be separated from the hard work of all Polri personnel under the leadership of Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in improving service quality, maintaining security, and strengthening closeness with the community. Nevertheless, the legislator reminded the police not to become complacent with the positive results. He hopes that the achievements will instead serve as a spur to continue making improvements and enhancing the quality of service to the public. “Going forward, do not be careless and continue to maintain this good performance. The future must be even better; this achievement must be a motivation to continuously improve service quality, professionalism, and closeness with the community,” he said. He also highlighted the remaining homework that Polri must address, such as handling street crime, eradicating thuggery, drug trafficking, and digital-based crimes. According to him, these crimes must be consistently combated. He believes the level of public trust can continue to grow if Polri consistently carries out its role as a public servant. “Most importantly, Polri must continue to be present as a protector, guardian, and public servant. If that is maintained, I am 100 per cent sure public trust will skyrocket,” said Sahroni. The Public Perception Survey and Evaluation of Polri Performance for the Second Quarter of 2026 was conducted by Litbang Kompas on 9-18 April 2026 with 1,200 respondents and published in the Kompas daily on 26 June 2026. The survey results recorded that the level of public trust in Polri increased to 82.4 per cent. This increase in trust was followed by improvements in a number of indicators of public assessment of the police institution. According to the Litbang Kompas survey release, Polri’s positive image rose from 64.4 per cent in 2025 to 71.5 per cent in 2026. Meanwhile, the level of public satisfaction with police services increased from 65.3 per cent to 67.6 per cent. The survey also showed that public assessment of the professionalism of Polri services increased. The professionalism score rose from 7.76 in the previous year to 8.37 based on the average index of 20 service aspects experienced by respondents who had direct contact with Polri, such as processing police documents, administrative services, and security and patrol activities.
