Sahroni Remembers Rachmat Gobel: A Conglomerate Who Fought for the People

Jakarta, VIVA – Member of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Rachmat Gobel passed away on Friday, 10 July 2026 at 03.20 WIB in Jakarta. Ahmad Sahroni, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, remembered Rachmat Gobel as one of his mentors in the world of politics.

According to him, beyond being a great politician, the 63-year-old was also a remarkable businessman and a pioneer of the electronics manufacturing industry in Indonesia.

“With his idealism, he devoted his life to politics so that he could contribute more widely, particularly to advancing his birthplace of Gorontalo. A conglomerate who fought for the people. His humble, sincere and helpful character is an inspiration for many young cadres entering politics,” said Sahroni in a written statement on Friday, 10 July 2026.

Sahroni also recounted that his career in the NasDem Party and in politics and government was extraordinary, from being entrusted with the post of Minister of Trade to being elected Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI.

“He carried out every mandate entrusted to him exceptionally well and deserves to be an example. His contribution to this nation was extraordinary,” Sahroni added.

During his lifetime, Sahroni said, Rachmat Gobel was also an inspiring nationalist philanthropist. The NasDem politician witnessed firsthand his persistence in continuing to contribute to the wider community, particularly in Gorontalo.

“From infrastructure development to opening up many job opportunities. So upon hearing this news, we are all naturally grieving and feeling the loss,” said Sahroni.
