Sahroni: Ministry of Health and Police Must Thoroughly Investigate Dr Myta's Case

Jakarta - Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives Ahmad Sahroni stated that the Ministry of Health and the National Police must thoroughly examine the case of intern doctor Dr Myta Aprilia Azmy, who died allegedly due to working without holidays. “If it is true that an intern doctor was forced to work beyond the regulatory limits without being given rest time, then this constitutes suspected abuse of authority,” said Sahroni in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday. He said that the hospital where the intern doctor worked must be examined, as well as the supervising doctors during the internship programme. “The police together with the Ministry of Health must investigate in detail; there could be systematic pressure within it,” he said. Sahroni assessed that seniority patterns based on intimidation and pressure like this are no longer relevant and instead damage the mental health and endanger young healthcare workers undergoing service and learning periods. “I urge intern doctors who experience such treatment not to be afraid to report to the Ministry of Health and also to the police. Such practices must be stopped and must not be repeated elsewhere,” said the lawmaker in the legal field. Previously, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that Dr Myta passed away in a severe lung condition at Moh. Hoesin Central General Hospital in Palembang, South Sumatra, on 1 May 2026. Dr Myta was previously on duty in the internship programme at K.H. Daud Arif Regional General Hospital in Kuala Tungkal, Jambi. The investigation results, the Health Minister explained, showed weaknesses in the implementation of the internship programme, indications of excess working hours, manipulation of schedules by internship supervisors, and weaknesses in medical procedures. The Health Minister ensured that the professional disciplinary board would conduct a medical audit to follow up on those investigation results. “It is hoped that it can be completed within a week, so that there is a conclusion. From that conclusion, the board through the Indonesian Health Council will propose what sanctions will be given,” said Budi in a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (7/5).
