Indonesia’s National Police Criminal Investigation Agency has officially designated Syekh Ahmad Al Misry (SAM) as a suspect in the alleged harassment of santri. Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission III, Ahmad Sahroni, has demanded severe punishment for Syekh Ahmad Al Misry if the harassment is proven.

“I ask the police to process this case as fairly as possible without any intervention or consideration that the person involved is a religious scholar. In fact, precisely because he is a scholar, he should be punished more severely for using religion as a shield to commit indecent acts,” Sahroni told reporters on Saturday (25/4/2026).

He urged that Syekh Ahmad Al Misry be charged with multiple articles. “It could include blasphemy charges,” Sahroni said.

Sahroni requested that the victims and their families be protected from threats. He hopes the case proceeds to trial.

“There must be no restorative justice,” he emphasised.

According to him, the alleged harassment case has been a public concern for some time. He is grateful that the police have uncovered the case.

“Alhamdulillah, the police have finally named him as a suspect,” he added.

Syekh Ahmad Al Misry Named as Suspect

It is known that Syekh Ahmad Al Misry was named as a suspect in the alleged harassment of santri. This designation was made after investigators conducted a case review related to the report.

“Based on the case review conducted by investigators on the basis of police report number: LP/B/586/XI/2025/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri dated 28 November 2025, the investigators have named Mr SAM as a suspect,” said the Head of Public Information for the Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, to reporters on Friday (24/4).

Based on statements from the victims’ legal representative, Benny Jehadu, Syekh Ahmad Al Misry often appears on television as a judge for Al-Qur’an memorisation competitions. This indecent act case has more than one victim.

“The current victims for our clients number five, as we have clearly stated that this is a case of sexual harassment against males, same-sex, with some underage and some adults,” explained Benny Jehadu.

The unlawful acts are suspected to have occurred over a considerable period, spanning years. The locations of the incidents during police examinations are also said to have varied.

“As for the timing, it’s around 2017, with different victims at different times. Some in 2017, 2018, up to 2025. But the times vary,” concluded another victims’ legal representative, Wati Trisnawati.

Syekh Ahmad Al Misry Speaks Out

Syekh Ahmad Al Misry has spoken out regarding the alleged santri harassment case. In a video uploaded to his Instagram account, Ahmad recounted departing for Egypt on 15 March to accompany his mother.

“I, Syekh Ahmad Al Misry, departed for Egypt on 15 March 2026 and arrived in Egypt on 16 March 2026 to accompany my mother who was ill and underwent surgery on 17 March 2026,” he said.

Ahmad stated that he only received the police summons on 30 March 2026. He also mentioned that at that time, he was summoned as a witness.

“So the police summons came after I had been in Egypt for about 15 days. I thank the Criminal Investigation Agency and the investigators for allowing me to provide testimony online,” he said.

“And this police summons was as a witness, not as a suspect as many people have imagined or circulated. Secondly, the harassment allegations against santri are not true,” Ahmad continued.

He asked that circulating information be verified first. Ahmad has handed over the alleged harassment case to his legal team.

“So please verify because the evidence I have has been handed over to my legal representatives to submit to the authorities, and there are also witnesses,” he said.

He regretted the ustaz who spread the information. He also considered the circulating information as slander.

“And I ask the ustadz who spread that information, or slander, or accusations, to produce even one video. I issue a fatwa accordingly. By Allah, I have never issued a fatwa like that, and this is a very cruel slander being spread on many social media platforms,” he said.

Ahmad also alluded to several parties who claim to know him. According to him, those people have never met or even communicated directly with him.

“And many say they know me and my character. Those people have never met me, not even communicated via WhatsApp,” he said.

“And it’s regrettable that many preachers spread these slanders without verifying with me, even though they have my contact number,” Ahmad continued.
