Sahroni Demands Layered Charges for Taufik Hidayat, Abuser of Girlfriend

Deputy Chairman of House Commission III Ahmad Sahroni has demanded that Taufik Hidayat (30), the perpetrator who abused and confined a woman identified as YTR (29) in Bandung, be sentenced to life imprisonment. He insisted that Taufik Hidayat should not be charged under ordinary assault articles. “The fitting punishment for a barbaric human like him is life imprisonment. Ordinary assault and confinement articles are no longer sufficient; layered charges must be applied,” Sahroni said when contacted on Thursday (25/6/2026). He assessed that Taufik Hidayat’s actions were not only cruel but also violated the victim’s human rights. He called on Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai to also handle the case. “This is a severe human rights violation. Minister Pigai must be aware of this matter; I also ask Minister Pigai to assist the victim,” he stated. The NasDem Party treasurer argued that Taufik Hidayat’s actions had destroyed the victim’s future. “Because he has extinguished the victim’s hope and she can no longer see. It is no longer fitting to call the suspect a human being, but rather a wild beast,” he stressed. Furthermore, he urged the West Java Regional Police to file their own reports if there are other victims of the suspect. “The police must file their own reports regarding other victims, so that they also report the heinous acts committed by the suspect,” he added. As previously known, Taufik Hidayat (30), the suspect in the sadistic confinement and abuse of his girlfriend YTR (29) in Bandung, West Java, has been arrested by police. Taufik’s flight ended in Majalaya after being hunted by officers. Taufik has also been detained and named a suspect for his actions. The victim is believed to have suffered physical violence for nearly three years, resulting in serious injuries all over her body. Taufik was arrested at his hiding place in Ciparay District, Bandung Regency, on Tuesday (23/6). He was taken to the West Java Regional Police Headquarters for intensive examination regarding the violence he committed. The victim’s aunt, Erni Heryadi (39), demanded the maximum penalty for the perpetrator. She was devastated seeing her niece’s condition, who is now suffering permanent physical effects. “We want the perpetrator to be punished as severely as possible. Her future is still long; she is only 29 years old,” Erni said, as reported by detikJabar on Wednesday (24/6). Erni added that the impact of the abuse was fatal. Despite being filled with great anger, the family is committed to pursuing legal channels and entrusting the handling of the case entirely to the police. “My niece is now disabled. Her condition is worrying,” she said. The victim’s sister-in-law, Meiliani (33), expressed relief but continued to demand a punishment commensurate with the perpetrator’s cruelty. She also thanked the authorities for their hard work. “We are very grateful to the West Java Regional Police and all the officers on duty who have successfully arrested the perpetrator,” she said.
