Sahroni confirms he was extorted by fake KPK envoy for Rp300 million

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives Ahmad Sahroni has confirmed that he was extorted by an individual posing as a KPK envoy, demanding Rp300 million, claiming it was for support from KPK leadership. According to him, the fake KPK envoy was a woman who met him in the parliamentary complex in Jakarta. In response, he immediately checked with the KPK regarding the matter. “I directly checked with the KPK and the KPK denied having any such envoy,” Sahroni said when confirmed in Jakarta on Friday. After receiving clarification from the KPK, he admitted to having given the amount of money requested by the fake envoy. He said he deliberately provided the money so that the perpetrator would be properly dealt with. “So, indeed, I support eradicating people like this,” he stated. According to him, the KPK then coordinated with Polda Metro Jaya, after which he reported the case to Polda Metro Jaya. “I then worked with Polda Metro Jaya and the KPK to catch this person by giving the money at her house,” he said. Previously, Polda Metro Jaya had arrested four fake KPK employees suspected of extorting Ahmad Sahroni. Polda Metro Jaya also stated that there had been threats from the fake envoy against Sahroni, but did not detail the nature of the threats.
