Sahroni asserts NasDem backs PPRT Bill: Bismillah, we will pass it this year
Jakarta, VIVA – The discussion of RUU PPRT has again become a focus. The bill, which has been championed for around 22 years, has not yet been enacted.
In an RDPU with Baleg DPR on Thursday, 5 March, Maria Ulfah, Chair of Komnas Perempuan, urged that the RUU PPRT be enacted in a single session, while Baleg DPR Chair Bob Hasan ensured the regulation is targeted to be completed this year.
In response, Ahmad Sahroni, Deputy Chair of DPR’s Commission III, emphasised that NasDem has since the outset committed to supporting the enactment of the RUU PPRT as a form of legal protection for domestic workers.
“The NasDem faction fully supports the enactment of this RUU since it first entered Parliament in 2014. As the chair of Commission III, I see many cases of violence against domestic workers. Therefore this RUU PPRT is absolutely necessary. Because this involves many aspects, especially the potential threats to workers from criminal activity. Bismillah, we will pass it this year,” Sahroni said in a statement on Friday, 6 March 2026.
According to Sahroni, a dedicated legal framework is needed because the majority of domestic workers are women who are vulnerable to violence, exploitation, and breaches of work rights in domestic spaces that are hard to monitor.
“Moreover, the majority of domestic workers are women who tend to be more vulnerable to violence or exploitation without clear legal protections. Therefore, with the enactment of this RUU, the state can ensure their rights are recognised, their profession respected, and if violations occur, law enforcement has a strong basis to protect them. So, Bismillah, we will pass it this year,” said Sahroni.
