Safe Tips for Entering One-Way Routes During the 2026 Eid al-Fitr Homecoming
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The government, through the Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Public Works, and the National Police Traffic Corps, began implementing traffic engineering during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming period on Tuesday (17/3/2026). This policy is contained in the Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) Number KP-DRJD 854 of 2026, HK.201/1/21/DJPL/2026, Kep/43/II/2026, and 20/KPTS/Db/2026. These arrangements are carried out to maintain safety, security, and smooth traffic flow. In addition, this policy also aims to optimise the capacity of national roads and toll highways during the Eid transportation period. Training Director of Safety Defensive Consultant Indonesia (SDCI), Sony Susmana, stated that the one-way system is relatively safer compared to contraflow because all vehicles move in the same direction. However, drivers still need to understand the characteristics of those routes. “If one-way is safer because the vehicles’ speeds are in the same direction, you just have to pay attention to the toll exit direction so you don’t go too far,” said Sony to Kompas.com on Tuesday (17/3/2026). In addition, maintain a stable speed and avoid sudden lane changes. Although traffic flow tends to be smoother, congestion can still occur, so full concentration is very much needed. Drivers also need to ensure their physical condition remains optimal before entering the one-way route. Get enough rest, manage driving time, and utilise rest areas before the one-way route begins to keep the journey safe and comfortable. It should be remembered that when on the one-way route, the position of the rest areas is on the right side, not the left as usual. Therefore, caution is required when entering those rest facilities.
