The Indonesian Hospital Pharmacy Association, or HISFARSI DKI Jakarta, held a service activity as well as health education for veterans of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and warakawuri at Fatahillah Mosque, on Saturday (23 May).

The activity, supported by the local community, Komunitas Muda Fatahillah, offered a range of free health services. From blood pressure checks, screening for non-communicable diseases such as blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol, to medication reviews, consultations with pharmacists, and DAGUSIBU (Dapatkan, Gunakan, Simpan, Buang Obat) education on proper use.

The programme is part of an effort to improve public understanding, particularly among the elderly, regarding safe and appropriate medication use.

In addition to providing health services, the activity also represents the pharmacists’ professional service in bringing information and education about medicines directly to the community.

Chairperson of HISFARSI DKI Jakarta, Renni Septini Nasution, explained that the elderly group faces a higher risk of non-communicable diseases and consuming several types of medicines simultaneously. Therefore, education on medicine use is considered essential.

“Through this activity, we want to bring the role of pharmacists closer to the community, especially veterans and warakawuri. Not only to perform health checks, but also to provide an understanding of rational, safe, and correct medicine use so that the quality of life for the elderly can be maintained,” Renni said.

She noted that public understanding of correct medicine use still needs to be improved. Therefore, direct education is considered important to help prevent errors in medicine use within family environments.

Chairman of the DKM Masjid Fatahillah, Izzuddin, expressed appreciation for the activity, as it is seen as giving real benefits to the community, especially the elderly.

“We appreciate this activity because not only does it provide health services, but it also represents care for the health of veterans and warakawuri,” he said.

One participant from among the veterans said they were helped by the health checks and direct consultations with medical personnel.

“This kind of activity is very beneficial for us to know our health condition regularly and at the same time obtain explanations about the medicines we take daily,” he said.

Through this activity, HISFARSI DKI Jakarta hopes the synergy between health professionals and community can be strengthened to support an ongoing improvement in public health quality.
