Saepul Mutilates Man in Depok After Argument, Disposes of Legs in River
Police have arrested Saepul (26) on suspicion of mutilating a man named Kunaefi (51) in Pancoran Mas, Depok. Saepul allegedly disposed of the victim’s severed legs in a river in Pitara, Depok.
Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto explained that Saepul and Kunaefi became acquainted through social media and arranged to meet at a rented house in the Cipayung area, Depok. Saepul and Kunaefi are believed to have become involved in an argument that culminated in murder.
"The meeting ended in a quarrel, leading the perpetrator to stab the victim in the stomach and slash his neck with a knife," Budi told reporters on Wednesday (5/8/2026).
Budi suspects Saepul attempted to cover his tracks by carrying out the mutilation. Saepul allegedly severed the victim’s legs and disposed of them in a river in Pitara, Depok.
"To eliminate evidence, the perpetrator mutilated the victim’s body at the upper thigh, wrapped the remains in black plastic and a sack, and then dumped the torso in the Tanah Merah area," Budi stated.
"Meanwhile, the severed legs were thrown into a stream in the Pitara area, Pancoran Mas," he continued.
Saepul is also believed to have stolen the victim’s motorcycle. The vehicle was sold in the Panimbang area of Pandeglang, Banten.
"After committing the act, the perpetrator took the victim’s motorcycle to Panimbang and sold it," Budi said.
The case was uncovered after residents attempted to burn a sack they thought contained rubbish. Upon setting the sack alight, they were shocked to discover human remains inside.
Residents had found the sack, which was later identified as containing Kunaefi’s body, on Friday (24/7). They only attempted to burn the sack on Tuesday (4/8).
The victim’s body was found unclothed. There was a slash wound on the neck, both hands were tied, and both legs had been mutilated.
