Police have arrested a sadistic robber who stabbed a woman, identified by the initials PT (25), a company cashier in Pelalawan Regency, Riau. The suspect, Jodi Alfanidi (25), turned out to be a contract worker at a primary school who admitted to committing the robbery because he was trapped by online loan debt.

“The temporary motive we obtained from the examination is economic factors. The suspect admitted to being burdened by debt, including online loan debt, and needed money to meet personal needs,” said Pelalawan Police Chief AKBP John Louis Letedara in a statement on Friday (19/6/2026).

Jodi was arrested while travelling to Bandar Sei Kijang in the early hours of Thursday (18/6), less than 12 hours after committing the robbery on Wednesday afternoon (17/2). Head of the Pelalawan Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Bayu Ramadhan Effendi, said the suspect attempted to flee when ambushed and almost hit a police officer, leading to firm and measured action being taken to immobilise him.

“The suspect worked as a contract employee at one of the primary schools,” Bayu said.

During the ambush, police seized more than Rp 30 million in remaining cash from the robbery. In addition to securing the suspect, police also confiscated several pieces of evidence, including scissors, a screwdriver, a fan used during the violence against the victim, the motorcycle used by the suspect, and the stolen money.

For his actions, the suspect is charged under Article 479, paragraphs (1) and (2) letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 12 years.

On the same occasion, Pelalawan Deputy Police Chief Kompol Asep stressed that the Pelalawan Police will not give any room to criminals who threaten public safety. “This is proof that any criminal act that disturbs the community will be handled swiftly, firmly, and professionally. We also urge the public to report immediately if they know of or experience a crime so it can be dealt with promptly,” said Kompol Asep.

In the robbery, the suspect made off with Rp 76 million belonging to the company after stabbing the victim 22 times. The case came to light after the victim sent a selfie showing her bloodied face to a friend.
