Sacrificial cow escapes after tether snaps in Tanah Tinggi, Tangerang

TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com - A sacrificial cow escaped and ran uncontrollably in Tanah Tinggi, Tangerang, on Wednesday morning (27 May 2026). The incident caused panic among residents and officials until the UPT Damkar Cibodas team evacuated the animal from a warehouse area. Tangerang City BPBD Chief Mahdiar stated that the first report was received via the Mako 112 service at 9:15 AM WIB from a resident named Pa Adi living on LP Wanita Street, RT 01/RW 13, Tanah Tinggi Village. Response operations concluded at 10:50 AM WIB, with the cow secured without any casualties or damage. According to the official report, the incident began during the slaughter preparation process. “The sacrificial cow broke free as the rope weakened and snapped during the slaughter attempt,” Mahdiar said in a written statement received by Kompas.com on Wednesday. Officers then pursued and controlled the animal in the VIVO warehouse area using diversion tactics and traps. One Rangga vehicle, one Rangga Mako vehicle, and personnel from UPT Damkar Cibodas and support units were deployed for the evacuation. Fortunately, no casualties occurred and the cow was safely evacuated. UPT Damkar Cibodas urged the public to ensure strong restraints on sacrificial animals and strict supervision during transportation and before slaughter to prevent similar incidents.
