Sacrifice Cow Escapes, Causing Traffic Jam in Ciputat
There are always stories of escaped sacrifice cows ahead of Qurban. This time, a sacrificial cow ran loose along the roads in Ciputat Timur, South Tangerang.
The incident occurred around 1:00 PM WIB on Ir H Juanda Street. Police received reports from residents about a loose cow disrupting traffic flow.
“Subsequent investigations revealed the animal came from Masjid As Salam on Semanggi I Street, RT 1 RW 3, Cempaka Putih Village, Ciputat Timur District, South Tangerang City,” stated Kompol Bambang Askar Sodiq, Ciputat Timur Police Chief, on Wednesday (27 May 2026).
The cow was initially brought to the mosque for slaughter at 10:00 AM WIB. However, as it was about to be sacrificed, it struggled and broke free from its tether.
“The cow then ran towards the main road on Juanda Street,” he said.
After an hour-long chase, the cow was eventually apprehended. It was caught beside the female dormitory of the State Islamic University (UIN) in Pisangan Village.
“The cow was then transported back to the mosque using an open truck,” he said.
Bambang reported that the cow was successfully slaughtered later that afternoon.
Traffic Jam Occurred
The cow ran onto the road, forcing passing vehicles to stop.
Meanwhile, residents chased the cow. It crossed the road and entered an alley.
Several residents were seen carrying ropes to capture the cow, which was eventually captured by them.
“It did cause a traffic jam due to running onto the road, but the cow has now been secured and slaughtered with no injuries to residents,” he concluded.
