Sacks of Goods Weighed – Ready to be Shipped Outside Java
In the West lobby of Block B, Tanah Abang Market, Central Jakarta, expedition outlets are filled with customers using their services. One of them is Baraka Express, which has long served buyers from outside Java who come to Block B of Tanah Abang Market. According to one employee, “most of the goods are sent to Medan, Aceh, and Sumatra. It takes about four days to Medan, and six days to Aceh,” he told CNBC Indonesia. The shipping costs are calculated based on the weight of the goods per kilogram. There are three routes that customers can choose: land, air, and sea. Of these options, land travel by truck is the most popular choice among customers. Each route has a different price per kilogram. For land travel, the price ranges from IDR 5,000 per kilogram, air travel ranges from IDR 30,000, and sea travel ranges from IDR 10,000. The expedition services available at Tanah Abang Market specifically serve shipments outside Java, with a minimum package weight of 11 kilograms. In terms of the number of shipments, the expedition company serves large quantities, namely shipments of goods weighing more than one ton. “Today, there is a customer who wants to send goods weighing more than one ton,” he said. The goods sent are mostly clothing and trousers. The opening hours of each expedition kiosk follow the market’s opening hours, which are from 09:00 to 15:00 WIB.
