Sabira Island Residents Complain of Difficulties Obtaining Ship Registration Services

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Residents of Sabira Island, Pulau Harapan Urban Village, North Thousand Islands District, Thousand Islands Regency, have complained about the difficulty of obtaining ship licence services.

Ship licence services function as proof of nationality, legitimate evidence of ownership, and a legal requirement for vessels sailing in Indonesian waters.

“Many vessels under 8 gross tonnage (GT) do not yet have ship licences, whether small or large ones,” said Muhammad Ali Kurniawan, head of Neighbourhood Unit 03 on Sabira Island, Pulau Harapan Urban Village, in Jakarta on Friday.

He hopes the Mobile Integrated Service programme organised by the One-Stop Integrated Service (PTSP) can provide a solution for issuing ship licences. “We hope the ship licence service can be facilitated according to the number submitted by residents,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wachid Wahyudi, head of the PMPTSP Management Unit of Thousand Islands Regency, said his office is ready to facilitate the processing of ship licences.

His office requires a letter of recommendation from Sabira Island residents, acknowledged by the Neighbourhood Association heads.

“That letter will serve as the basis for us to coordinate with the Regent of Thousand Islands and collaborate with the KSOP so that ship licence services for vessels under 8 GT can be facilitated,” he said.

The proposal letter from the community will be the basis for the PMPTSP Management Unit to invite external agencies, such as the KSOP and other relevant parties, to open services on Sabira Island.

His office needs an official request from the community as grounds for engaging and coordinating with the Head of the Harbours Master and Port Authority Office (KSOP).

“Later we will jointly record the data of vessels that do not yet have ship licences so the service can be more easily accessible to residents,” he said.

Previously, the Thousand Islands Regency Government held a Mobile Integrated Service (PTK) programme on Sabira Island on 23-24 July 2026. Sabira Island is part of the northernmost section of the Thousand Islands, covering an area of 8.82 hectares.

This outermost island lies 160 kilometres from Tanjung Priok (North Jakarta) and directly borders Lampung Province, so it takes a considerable amount of time to reach the location.
