Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Saan Mustopa served as inspecting officer at the military funeral of NasDem politician Rachmat Gobel, held at the Kalibata National Heroes’ Cemetery in Jakarta on Friday, 10 July 2026. The burial of the member of the House of Representatives was conducted by soldiers of the Jakarta First Garrison Command.

The ceremony commander read out a brief biography of Rachmat Gobel, who was born on 3 September 1962 to Thayeb Mohammad Gobel and Annie Noto Gobel. During his lifetime, Rachmat served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2024 and as Minister of Trade from 2014 to 2015.

Rachmat was awarded the Bintang Mahaputera Adipradana. He breathed his last at Brawijaya Hospital in Tebet on Friday, 10 July 2026, at 03.20 Western Indonesian Time, following an illness.

Afterwards, inspecting officer Saan Mustopa read out the farewell address before releasing the deceased. The Deputy General Chairperson of the NasDem Party said that Rachmat had died in service to the interests of the nation and state. “May the path of devotion he undertook serve as an example for us all, and may his soul find the best place beside God Almighty,” he said.

The military honour guard then fired a salvo, followed by the lowering of the coffin into the grave. At that moment, the red-and-white flag was draped over the coffin.

Symbolically, the inspecting officer scattered earth onto the grave, which was then continued by cemetery staff. The family then scattered flowers, and floral tributes from the state were placed on the grave. Former President Jusuf Kalla, or JK, was also present to lay a wreath.
