Saan Mustopa Confirms Asset Forfeiture Bill to Be Completed This Year

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Saan Mustopa, has confirmed that the Asset Forfeiture Bill remains a priority in the 2026 National Legislation Programme (Prolegnas). He stated that the bill is currently under discussion by the DPR’s Commission III. “The Asset Forfeiture Bill is in the process of being discussed at the DPR through Commission III. And it is included in the 2026 Priority Prolegnas list,” Saan told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. Saan added that the bill is targeted for completion this year, given its inclusion in the priority list. However, he stressed that the quality of the law’s substance remains the primary concern. Therefore, the DPR will continue to open space for the public to provide input before the discussion with the government is finalised. “This is a priority in 2026, and because it is a priority this year, we will make every effort to complete it this year,” Saan said. “But once again, as much input as possible from the public is important so that this Asset Forfeiture Bill, when discussed with complete materials from the public, is expected to become more perfect later on,” he continued. Previously, the Chairman of the DPR’s Commission III, Habiburokhman, dismissed accusations that the commission was refusing to discuss the Asset Forfeiture Bill. He stated that Commission III has been accelerating the discussion of the bill to this day. “Today, there are many hoaxes circulating that Commission III is refusing to discuss the Asset Forfeiture Law. Well, you are all witnesses here, aren’t you, to how we have been going full throttle on this Asset Forfeiture Bill for weeks now,” Habiburokhman said during a press conference at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 13 July 2026. Habiburokhman explained that his team is making every effort to invite various elements of society to provide input regarding the Asset Forfeiture Bill. He noted that the discussion of this bill differs from the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) and the Polri Law, which is why the deliberation process requires a considerable amount of time.
