Vice Chair of the House of Representatives, Saan Mustopa, gave a positive response to the Macro Economic Framework and the main policies of fiscal policy (KEM-PPKF) for the 2027 RAPBN presented directly by President Prabowo Subianto. Mustopa said the economic indicators outlined bring fresh air and optimism amid the current fluctuations in the rupiah exchange rate.

This was conveyed after Mustopa attended the 19th Plenary Session of the DPR RI for the Fifth Session of the 2025-2026 Session at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May.

‘What the President said regarding the Macro Economic Framework and the main fiscal policy, firstly it shows heroism and patriotism referencing Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution. And secondly it shows optimism for our economy in the coming year,’ said Saan.

According to Saan, the President’s direct appearance at the plenary to read the KEM-PPKF is tangible proof of the executive’s seriousness in steering the nation’s economic future. He believes this well-prepared plan will bring comprehensive improvements to national economic indicators in 2027.

‘The delivery of the KEM and the main policy pillars of fiscal policy is by the President as a demonstration of the government’s seriousness to build our economy next year, which in my view will be much better. From the macroeconomic framework presented earlier, it describes optimism for the year ahead. Our economy in 2027 will, I believe, see improvements and significant increases across all indicators mentioned by the President,’ the NasDem politician said.

In response to public concerns about the weakening rupiah trend and the dynamics of the stock market lately, Mustopa urged all parties to remain calm. He judged the market movements at present to be within normal bounds and believed the government’s economic team has prepared robust policy cushions.

‘I am confident that today there are fluctuations related to the Rupiah and to the stock market; in my view, this is normal. But I am sure the government has anticipated, has prepared steps to prevent declines in the Rupiah against the Dollar as well as those of the Jakarta Composite Index; those steps have already been prepared,’ Mustopa asserted.

Mustopa is optimistic that through the mitigation strategies prepared by the government, pressure on the domestic monetary sector and the stock market will ease in the near future. ‘Going forward, God willing, they will hold firm and begin to recover,’ he concluded. (Faj/P-3)

‘Prabowo has even admitted feeling frequently struck by harsh criticism from PDIP cadres against the government.’

‘Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Mustopa has confirmed the President’s presence tomorrow.’

‘Prabowo is scheduled to attend the DPR plenary session at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (20 May).’

According to Perry, fundamentally the rupiah should have room to strengthen supported by a low current account deficit.

‘BI Governor Perry Warjiyo is confident Rupiah will strengthen in July–August 2026 after a 50 basis point BI rate rise to 5.25% for external stability.’

‘Bank Indonesia (BI) believes the rupiah will stabilise again and even strengthen in July–August 2026.’

‘He also highlighted various issues faced by the public, from rising prices of essential goods, narrowing employment opportunities, to weakening household purchasing power.’

‘Market reacts positively to the government’s high growth target for 2027.’
