S&P Affirms Indonesia's Investment Grade Rating with Stable Outlook
Standard & Poor’s (S&P) has affirmed Indonesia’s long-term sovereign credit rating at BBB and its short-term rating at A-2, maintaining a stable outlook for the country. Rudiyanto, Director of Panin Asset Management, stated that the decision was in line with market expectations and was responded to positively, as reflected by the strengthening of the Jakarta Composite Index at the close of trading on Monday. This assessment from the international ratings agency is welcome news for Indonesia amidst a wave of negative sentiment affecting the country’s financial markets. However, the market remains cautious ahead of upcoming assessments from Moody’s and Fitch Ratings, with the government’s management of the state budget, including the deficit, being a critical issue that cannot be overlooked. Regarding the MSCI assessment, which encourages greater openness in the stock market, the exchange authority must remain consistent in data disclosure to ensure Indonesia maintains a strong standing with ratings agencies.
