S. Korea to buy CN-235 plane

SEOUL (DPA): South Korea will buy military-use transport
aircraft worth 100 billion won (about US$ 99 million) from
Indonesia, the defense ministry announced in Seoul yesterday.

The ministry did not announce how many of the medium-sized CN-
235 troop and cargo carriers it would buy.

The jets have a range of 3,000 kilometers and can be used in
rescue operations as well as military missions.

Seoul and Jakarta signed a statement of intent on the purchase
in June, following a series of test flights. The purchase was
approved in South Korea in October.
