S. Kalimantan maintains lead in diving c'ships
JAKARTA (JP): The mighty South Kalimantan team continued its
winning run in the national diving championships yesterday when
it snatched four more gold medals to perch clear on top of the
standings.
Indonesian hopeful in the 18th Southeast Asian Games Husaini
Noor led South Kalimantan's charge, adding two more golds to his
personal tally of four and boosting his team medal collection to
seven golds, six silvers and two bronzes.
Central Java's Nani Suryani Wulansari denied the all-
conquering South Kalimantan a clean sweep when she triumphed in
the springboard Age Group A with a total score of 439.10.
Nani also took a silver in the one-meter board to lift her
team to the second spot at the expense of North Sumatra, which
finished the second day of competition empty-handed.
Husaini notched an impressive win over the 1991 SEA Games gold
medalist Temmy Kusuma of Jakarta in the one-meter board. Husaini
scored 541.55 in his 11 attempts, outclassing his Jakarta rival
by more than 20 points. Husaini's teammate Bahriansyah had to be
content with the bronze.
Husaini grabbed his second gold of the day in the springboard
Age Group A with 553.40. His fellow South Kalimantan Gatot Taruna
confirmed his billing as a runner-up specialist in a score of
502.33. Gatot finished second behind determined Husaini twice on
Wednesday.
SEA Games regular Dwi Mariastuti of South Kalimantan proved
her status as the nation's best female diver by eclipsing Nani in
the one-meter board. Dwi, two-time SEA Games champion, collected
402.80 to beat Nani for her only gold. (amd)
