S. Jakarta police catch 600 thugs
JAKARTA (JP): South Jakarta Police Chief Lt. Col. S.Y. Wenas
said over the weekend that his station apprehended 600 thugs in
the current fight against street hoodlums over the last two
weeks.
Lt. Col. Wenas said that out of the 600 thugs arrested by
police officers, only 50, whose actions could be classified as
criminal, are still being detained and the rest have been
released.
"We are now preparing the dossiers of the 50 thugs, for trial,
for various crimes," he said, adding that most of them were
violating regulations regarding illegal possession of weapons, as
well as public unrest.
Wenas also said that the dossiers of the thugs will be handed
over to the South Jakarta District court next month.
The national police declared war against thugs after 10 street
hoodlums killed an officer from Jakarta's prestigious Police
College on March 6. (mas)
