S African investors interested in Indonesia
Pretoria (ANTARA News) - South African President Thabo Mbeki said that South African investors have recently expressed interest in doing business in Indonesia.
This statement was made by President Mbeki in a press conference at the South African Presidential Office, Unions Buildings, in Pretoria on Monday afternoon, or Monday night in Jakarta.
President Mbeki said the South African and Indonesian governments need to promote their economy to their respective businesspeople.
President Mbeki said that in the case of a number of obstacles facing the two nations, both governments need to take comprehensive steps in overcoming the problems.
He also pointed to the promotion of global trade serving as an umbrella of the global business sector.
He underlined the need for also considering aviation cooperation. He said aviation played an important role in exploring cooperation opportunities on people-to-people basis.
"If it is easy to visit the two countries, it would be much easier to find cooperation potentials," he said.
In the meantime, President Yudhoyono said there are three steps which need to be taken in boosting cooperation between the two countries.
Firstly, both governments need to issue effective business policies, regulations and mechanisms on expanding economic cooperation.
Secondly, the private sector needs to be more active in making approaches in seeking business opportunities which might be undertaken and developed.
And thirdly, providing a support system like banks and transportation facilities like air and land transportation means.
On the occasion, both heads of state also dwelled on matters relating to the energy crisis facing both countries, and how to overcome it in boosting their economic growth.
Therefore the two countries reached agreement to increase the use of clean energy, energy diversification and technology transfer with a view to bringing about a better environment especially in view of the fact that energy is currently dominated by natural oil, which is not friendly to the environment.
Both heads of state pointed out that energy is an important issue whose problems need to be solved.
It was also reported that the South African energy minister planned to visit Indonesia in April 2008.(*)
