A military funeral ceremony will be led by the Indonesian Defence Minister as the reviewing officer.

The remains of retired General Ryamizard Ryacudu, accompanied by his family, arrived at the Ministry of Defence office in Central Jakarta on Monday.

The coffin was transported by hearse and arrived at the Ministry of Defence entrance at 07:30 WIB.

The coffin, draped in the red and white flag, was lowered by TNI personnel from the hearse and taken into the Ministry of Defence building.

The Ministry of Defence will hold a final tribute to retired General Ryamizard Ryacudu as a national gesture of respect for his service to the country.

“As a final tribute to the late General Ryamizard Ryacudu’s service to the nation, the Ministry of Defence will hold a farewell ceremony and lying-in-state for his remains,” said Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Defence Ministry’s Information Bureau.

Sirait explained that the remains were scheduled to arrive at the Ministry of Defence on Monday at 07:30 WIB for lying-in-state before the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (BTI) Hall.

The lying-in-state ceremony will be led by the Deputy Defence Minister as the reviewing officer.

The Ministry of Defence will then hold a farewell ceremony at 11:00 WIB before the remains are transported to the National Heroes’ Cemetery in Kalibata, Jakarta.

Ryamizard’s remains will be buried with full military honours at Kalibata National Heroes’ Cemetery.

Ryamizard was a retired senior Indonesian Army officer who served as Army Chief of Staff from 2002 to 2005.

During the administration of Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo, Ryamizard served as Defence Minister from 2014 to 2019.

Throughout his career, Ryamizard made significant contributions to safeguarding national sovereignty and strengthening the national defence system.

For the Ministry of Defence, Ryamizard was not only a former Defence Minister but also a leader whose legacy includes strong leadership, dedication, and commitment to building the nation’s defence.

Sirait added that Ryamizard’s ideas, policies, and service would remain integral to the Ministry of Defence’s mission in safeguarding Indonesia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
