Ryamizard Ryacudu's Coffin Arrives at Ministry of Defence for Memorial Ceremony
The Ministry of Defence will hold a memorial ceremony for former Defence Minister General Ryamizard Ryacudu (Ret.) today. His coffin has arrived at the ministry.
At the Ministry of Defence in Central Jakarta at 7.40am WIB on Monday, 1 June 2026, the coffin entered the premises. The coffin, draped in the red and white flag, was carried into the building by Indonesian National Armed Forces personnel. Several individuals in white attire exited the hearse and followed into the building.
The late general is scheduled to undergo a memorial ceremony at the ministry, led by Deputy Defence Minister Donny Ermawan Taufanto. He will subsequently be buried at Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta through a military funeral ceremony.
Ryamizard Ryacudu passed away at the age of 76 on Sunday, 31 May 2026, in the afternoon. He died while receiving treatment at the Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto in Jakarta.
He concluded his military career as Army Chief of Staff during the administration of Indonesia’s fifth President, Megawati Soekarnoputri. During President Joko Widodo’s first term, Ryamizard was appointed Defence Minister, with Jokowi describing him as a democratic and visionary military figure.
