Ryamizard Ryacudu Passes Away, Ministry of Defence to Hold Final Honours Before Burial
The Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) of the Republic of Indonesia will hold a final honour ceremony on Monday, 1 June 2026 for former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu, who passed away today. The ceremony serves as a national tribute to his service and dedication to the country.
“In recognition of the late’s service and dedication to the nation, the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia will conduct a farewell and lying-in-state ceremony for Retired General Ryamizard Ryacudu (TNI),” said Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Defence Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defence’s Secretariat, in a statement on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
He added that Ryamizard’s remains are scheduled to arrive at the Ministry of Defence at 07:30 WIB on Monday for lying in state before the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (BTI) Hall of the Ministry. The lying-in-state ceremony will be led by the Deputy Minister of Defence as the Officer Commanding.
Subsequently, the Ministry of Defence will hold a farewell ceremony at 11:00 WIB before the remains are transported to Kalibata National Heroes’ Cemetery in Jakarta. Ryamizard will receive a military funeral at the cemetery.
“The military funeral ceremony will be led by the Minister of Defence as the Officer Commanding,” Rico stated.
Ryamizard was a retired senior officer of the Indonesian Army who served as Army Chief of Staff from 2002 to 2005. During President Joko Widodo’s administration, he was appointed Defence Minister from 2014 to 2019. Throughout his career, Ryamizard made significant contributions to safeguarding national sovereignty and strengthening the national defence system.
For the Ministry of Defence, Ryamizard was not only a former Defence Minister but also a figure who left a legacy of leadership, dedication, and strong commitment to building the nation’s defence. Rico noted that his ideas, policies, and service will remain integral to the Ministry’s efforts in preserving the sovereignty and unity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
