Ryamizard Ryacudu Laid to Rest at Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery

Former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu, who served from 2014 to 2019, was laid to rest at Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery in Jakarta on Monday, June 1.

A military funeral was held in honour of the retired Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) General Ryamizard Ryacudu, who dedicated his life to Indonesia.

Ryamizard passed away at the age of 76 on Sunday, May 31.

The funeral ceremony took place around 12:00 WIB, with the coffin arriving at Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery after being laid in state at the Ministry of Defence.

The coffin was draped in the red and white flag. The ceremony began with the commander’s report to Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, who presided as the reviewing officer, followed by a brief reading of the late general’s biography.

Sjafrie then led the Apel Persada ceremony.

“As Defence Minister of the Republic of Indonesia, on behalf of the nation, people, and Indonesian National Armed Forces, I hereby offer the late general’s soul, body, and service to the motherland,” Sjafrie stated.

Prior to his death, Ryamizard concluded his TNI service as Army Chief of Staff during Megawati Sukarnoputri’s presidency.

He was also the son-in-law of the sixth Vice President of Indonesia, Try Sutrisno. His father, Major General TNI Musanif Ryacudu, was a senior Indonesian Army officer known for his close ties to the country’s first president, Sukarno.

During President Joko Widodo’s administration, Ryamizard was appointed as Defence Minister for his first term. At the time, Jokowi introduced Ryamizard as a military figure known for his thoughtful and democratic approach.
