Ryamizard Ryacudu in Jusuf Kalla's Eyes: General Who Made Significant Contributions to National Security
JAKARTA - Former Vice President of Indonesia (10th and 12th) Jusuf Kalla (JK) expressed condolences over the death of former Defence Minister General TNI (Retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu on Sunday (31 May 2026).
JK recalled Ryamizard, who served as Defence Minister during Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) administration and his own term from 2014 to 2019, as a military leader who made significant contributions to national security and defence during his service.
“He was a prominent figure and general who dedicated his life to contributing greatly to national security and military service,” JK said in a statement on Sunday evening.
JK also highlighted Ryamizard’s military family background, which has long served the nation.
“This is a great loss for all of us following the passing of General Ryamizard Ryacudu,” he added.
JK also prayed that Ryamizard would be granted a fitting place with Allah SWT and that his family would be given strength.
“Once again, we extend our deepest condolences. May Allah SWT grant him a worthy place in His presence,” JK said.
Ryamizard will be buried with military honours at Kalibata National Cemetery in Jakarta on Monday (1 June 2026).
