Ryamizard Ryacudu dies, Indonesian Army: Late General remembered as decisive, courageous and humble leader

JAKARTA — Army Public Affairs Chief Brigadier General Donny Pramono conveyed the condolences of the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) family over the passing of one of the nation’s finest sons, retired General Ryamizard Ryacudu. Ryamizard Ryacudu died at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital in Jakarta on Sunday, 31 May 2026, at 2:03 PM WIB. ‘For TNI AD soldiers, the late general was known as a decisive, courageous, humble leader with a strong commitment to the nation’s interests. His example, integrity, and dedication will continue to inspire future generations of Army personnel,’ Donny said on Sunday. Donny added that Ryamizard’s passing is a significant loss for the Indonesian Army and the nation. ‘Born in Palembang on 21 April 1950, retired General Ryamizard Ryacudu was the son of Brigadier General Musannif Ryacudu, a respected Army officer known for his service to the nation. He carried forward this spirit of dedication throughout his life and military career,’ he said. Donny detailed that Ryamizard’s career in the Indonesian Army spanned various field assignments before he was entrusted with several strategic positions. His service peaked when he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD) from 2002 to 2005. Under his leadership, the Indonesian Army strengthened professionalism, discipline, and unit readiness to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. ‘In this role, the late general actively contributed to strengthening the national defence system and advancing defence capabilities amid evolving strategic dynamics,’ Donny said. The Indonesian Army prayed that Ryamizard would be granted a place of honour with God, forgiven for his sins, and that his family be given strength, patience, and acceptance in this time of loss. ‘The passing of retired General Ryamizard Ryacudu leaves a legacy of service that will always be remembered in the history of the Indonesian Army and the nation,’ he added.
