Ruteng Airport Terminal Damaged by Earthquake, Flights Remain Normal
The terminal of Frans Sales Lega Airport in Ruteng, Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has suffered damage as a result of earthquakes. The damage has occurred since the first magnitude 7.7 earthquake on 15 August and the subsequent aftershocks.
“The ceiling has collapsed and the walls are cracked,” said the Head of Frans Sales Lega Airport, Punto Widaksono, on Saturday (29/8/2026).
Flight operations continue to run normally, but passengers are waiting outside the terminal. Punto said the waiting area inside the airport terminal could actually already be used. However, passengers have chosen to wait outside the terminal for safety reasons.
“Because the public is still traumatised by the earthquake,” said Punto.
He said passengers have chosen to wait outside the terminal since the first flight after the initial earthquake. In addition to personal initiative, Punto explained, passengers are waiting outside the terminal also at the request of the airlines.
“This is a request from the airlines and the public; they are waiting outside,” said Punto.
The check-in process, however, continues to be carried out inside the terminal. Flights are also operating normally. “Check-in services are inside the terminal. Airport operations continue to run normally,” Punto stressed.
He said the damage to the airport terminal has not yet been repaired. Repairs will be carried out after a post-earthquake feasibility study is completed.
“Not yet (repaired); there will be a feasibility study first after the earthquake,” Punto concluded.
