Rustini Muhaimin stresses literacy must be instilled from an early age
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Rustini Muhaimin, founder of Jendela Dunia Kita, believes literacy – the ability to read and write – should be instilled in children from an early age.
She added that children who are literate and close to books will be more confident in dreaming, thinking critically, and building self-assurance to face modern challenges.
“Therefore, I believe literacy must be instilled from an early age,” said the wife of Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, also known as Cak Imin, in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday.
She urged all parties to make reading a fun activity for children.
“Let’s make reading a pleasant habit, not a boring obligation. One book read today can open a window to the world for our children’s future,” she said.
“Children also need a numeracy mindset. Skills in calculation, understanding logic, and problem-solving will be crucial in the modern era,” she added.
She made these statements during a visit to MI YAPPI Balong in Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, on Thursday.
