Rustini Muhaimin Equips Islamic Boarding School Students with Sewing Skills

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Rustini Muhaimin, Advisor to the Dharma Wanita Persatuan of the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment (DWP Kemenko PM), has equipped a number of students from the Al Madrasatul Qur’an Islamic Boarding School in Jakarta with sewing skills. “It is not enough for students to only study religious knowledge and memorise the Qur’an. They must also possess specific skills so they have the provisions to build a better future,” Rustini said in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to her, sewing training is a skill that offers significant economic opportunities and can be developed into a productive business. “Economic independence must be built from an early age so that students are able to contribute to their families, society, and the nation when they return to the community,” she said. She further expressed her hope that Islamic boarding schools would become places that produce a generation that is noble, intelligent, and productive. She therefore hopes that more empowerment programmes will reach Islamic boarding school environments, so that students gain competencies relevant to the times without abandoning the Islamic values that form their identity. The training was reportedly welcomed enthusiastically by the students, who received an introduction to basic sewing techniques as well as motivation to continue developing their skills as a provision for their future lives.
