Rustini Muhaimin Equips Islamic Boarding School Students with Sewing Skills

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Rustini Muhaiment, advisor to the Dharma Wanita Persatuan of the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment (DWP Kemenko PM), has equipped several students of the Al Madrasatul Qur’an Islamic Boarding School in Jakarta with sewing skills.

“Students should not only study religious sciences and memorise the Al-Qur’an. They must also possess specific skills to provide them with the means to build a better future,” Rustini stated in a briefing confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to her, sewing training is one of the skills that offers significant economic opportunities and can be developed into productive enterprises.

“Economic independence must be built from an early age so that students are able to contribute to their families, society, and the nation when they return to the community,” she said.

Furthermore, she expressed her desire for Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) to become places where a generation that is morally upright, intelligent, and productive is born.

Therefore, she hopes for an increasing number of empowerment programmes that reach the pesantren environment.

In doing so, she hopes that students will possess competencies relevant to modern developments without abandoning the Islamic values that form their identity.

The training was reportedly met with enthusiasm by the students, who received instruction ranging from basic sewing techniques to motivation to continue developing their abilities as preparation for their future lives.
