REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, reported the follow-up on the results of a working visit to Russia to President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace on Thursday (16 April 2026). The visit resulted in commitments for energy supplies as well as plans for infrastructure investments from the Russian side.

He and his team are working on the outcomes of the agreements between President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin to strengthen long-term energy cooperation. Indonesia is pushing to secure energy supplies along with the construction of supporting facilities to bolster national resilience.

“Praise be to God, today I reported to the President on his instructions and directives. Yesterday, we were in Russia to follow up on the agreements between the leaders of both countries,” said Bahlil in Jakarta on Friday (17 April 2026).

He revealed that communications with the Russian side showed positive developments. Indonesia has the opportunity to obtain crude oil supplies as well as support for energy infrastructure development.

Bahlil detailed that the national fuel needs reach around 1.6 million barrels per day. Domestic production is only around 600,000 to 610,000 barrels per day, so Indonesia still imports about one million barrels per day. This situation is prompting the government to seek supply sources from various countries. Russia is one of the strategic partners to strengthen the national energy reserves.

“The news, praise be to God, is quite encouraging that we will receive crude supplies from Russia and that the Russian side is ready to build several important infrastructures,” he stated.

He added that the certainty of crude oil supplies from Russia is nearing finalisation. “As for the crude, I think it’s almost final,” explained Bahlil.
