Russian tanker captain evacuated by SAR team from the waters off Cilegon
A joint search and rescue (SAR) team conducted a medical evacuation (medevac) of the captain of the tanker Elisabeth, a Russian national, Shushkin (41), who was suffering a serious illness from the waters of Tempurung Island, Cilegon City, Banten Province.
The head of standby and operations at Basarnas Banten in Cilegon, Rizky Dwianto, said on Saturday that the evacuation began after they received an emergency report from the ship’s crew at 15:18 WIB.
“The victim reportedly requires urgent medical treatment. We immediately deployed the KN SAR Tetuka to the rendezvous point at coordinates 05°52.800’S 105°56.700’E,” he said.
The rescue vessel arrived at the location, about 14.65 nautical miles away, at 21:18 WIB. The evacuation was conducted by docking KN SAR Tetuka to the tanker Elisabeth’s hull to transfer the casualty.
The operation involved coordination among various elements, including personnel from the Basarnas Banten Office, the Police’s Water Police and Mobile Detective Unit (Polairud) of the National Police, the Health Quarantine Office, the Cilegon Immigration Office, and the Sea and Coast Guard Unit (KPLP).
Although the weather at the site was overcast, Rizky assured that all stages of the evacuation proceeded smoothly, without significant obstacles.
Currently, the health condition of the foreign national remains under medical observation at the hospital.
