Russian Soldier Opens Fire on Comrades and Civilians in Crimea, Leaving Four Dead

A Russian soldier opened fire on his fellow servicemen and civilians in an incident in Crimea, the peninsula annexed by Moscow from Ukraine. Local authorities reported that at least one soldier was killed and another injured in the military shooting. Among civilians, at least three people were killed and three others wounded in the same incident. The Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, said the soldier responsible for the deadly shooting has been detained by local authorities. No clear information has been released regarding the motive for the shooting. Razvozhayev added that an investigation into the incident is underway. “All circumstances and causes of the incident are being investigated,” he said. He urged the public to remain calm and not spread rumours. Crimea is a strategic Ukrainian peninsula with a massive military presence on the Black Sea coast, which was seized and annexed by Russia in 2014.
