Russian Official Predicts Emergence of Non-Nuclear Weapons with Nuclear-Level Destructive Power

Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has predicted that new types of non-nuclear weapons will emerge in the world, possessing destructive power comparable to nuclear weapons.

“As technology advances, it is clear that new types of non-nuclear weapons will emerge, but ultimately they may equal nuclear weapons in their destructive power,” Peskov stated while attending the Primakov Readings International Forum in Moscow on Wednesday (24/06/2026), as reported by the Russian news agency TASS.

Peskov revealed that global security is currently deteriorating. He assessed that nuclear weapons remain the sole bulwark preventing the world from plunging into a global war. “In fact, we have nothing left in this world except nuclear deterrence. It is the only thing protecting the world from global war,” he said.

However, he acknowledged that nuclear deterrence cannot prevent the outbreak of regional conflicts. Peskov noted that trends related to such conflicts are currently on the rise.

According to Peskov, the world no longer possesses the influence required to reach agreements regarding global security. “We no longer have the influence to coordinate solutions in this field,” he remarked.
