Russian Official Predicts Emergence of Non-Nuclear Weapons with Nuclear-Level Destructive Power
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has predicted that new non-nuclear weapons will emerge in the world, but these weapons could ultimately possess destructive power equal to that of nuclear arms. “As technology develops, it is clear that new types of non-nuclear weapons will appear, but in the end they may match nuclear weapons in their destructive power,” Peskov said while attending the Primakov Readings International Forum in Moscow on Wednesday (24/6/2026). Peskov revealed that global security is currently deteriorating. He assessed that nuclear weapons are the only bulwark preventing the world from plunging into a global war. “In fact, we have nothing else left in this world apart from nuclear deterrence. That is the only thing protecting the world from global war,” he stated. However, he acknowledged that nuclear deterrence cannot prevent the outbreak of regional conflicts. Peskov observed that the trend related to such conflicts is currently increasing. According to Peskov, the world no longer has the influence to reach agreements on global security. “We no longer have the influence to coordinate solutions in this area,” he said.
