Russian Official at Khamenei's Funeral Says Iran Will Prevail Over US
Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev led a Russian government delegation to attend the funeral of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, in Tehran. The senior Russian official stated that Iran would triumph over the United States.
According to Iranian media outlet Press TV on Saturday, Medvedev said in a video published on his Telegram channel after paying his final respects on Friday that the Iranian nation would emerge victorious in its struggle against the US.
The former Russian president expressed Russia’s condolences over Khamenei’s passing. Medvedev, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, mourned the loss of Ayatollah Khamenei, who he said had united the Iranian people. He added that the Iranian nation would not succumb to pressure from the US and other countries.
Medvedev stated that on behalf of the leadership and people of the Russian Federation, he extended his deepest condolences over the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei. He added that they shared in the grief of the Iranian people over this ‘tremendous loss’.
Medvedev’s remarks came as foreign delegations from various countries attended the funeral ceremony for Ayatollah Khamenei, who was killed in a US and Israeli attack in February.
The Russian delegation also held a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the ceremony. Pezeshkian thanked the Russian government and people for their support and expressions of sympathy following Khamenei’s recent martyrdom.
He called for the acceleration of the implementation of strategic agreements between Tehran and Moscow, particularly in the economic, trade, energy, and transit sectors. ‘There is great potential for expanding economic, trade, energy, and transit cooperation between the two countries, which must be implemented with greater determination within the framework of existing agreements,’ Pezeshkian said.
Medvedev conveyed to Pezeshkian the condolences of Putin and the Russian government over the martyrdom of Khamenei, military commanders, officials, scientists, and civilians, especially the children killed in the recent US-Israeli attacks.
