A foreign national’s reckless driving of a sports car in the Nusa Dua area of Bali went viral on social media. Video footage showed a blue sports car performing drifts at a road intersection in the early morning hours.

In response to the viral video, the Denpasar Police Traffic Unit immediately launched an investigation into the driver and the vehicle involved.

The head of public relations at Denpasar Police, Chief Inspector I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, identified the driver as a 29-year-old Russian national with the initials DR. He was found performing drifts in a blue Porsche Boxster at Pratama Road Junction in Nusa Dua.

“After the video went viral, our traffic unit immediately conducted an investigation and successfully identified the driver and the vehicle owner,” said Adi on Saturday, 14 March 2026.

The incident occurred on Friday, 13 March 2026, at approximately 01:00 West Indonesia Time (WIT) at Pratama Junction in Nusa Dua.

According to Adi, DR had rented the Porsche Boxster from a car rental business on Thursday, 12 March 2026, at approximately 13:00 WIT. After taking possession of the vehicle, he toured the Canggu area accompanied by a rental company representative seated in the passenger seat.

However, that evening at approximately 23:00 WIT, DR drove alone to the Nusa Dua area. Upon passing Pratama Road Junction, which was quiet at the time, he then performed drifts with the vehicle twice.

“The driver noticed the road was empty and then performed drifts at the intersection twice,” explained Adi.

After performing these manoeuvres, between approximately 03:00 and 04:00 WIT, DR continued his journey to the Kintamani area with a friend he had met at a restaurant.

The Denpasar Police Traffic Unit subsequently summoned DR for questioning at the traffic unit office. Police also visited the car rental business location to verify ownership of the vehicle used.

Based on the investigation, police issued a traffic violation ticket to DR for violating traffic regulations. He was charged under Article 283 read in conjunction with Article 107 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transportation (LLAJ).

In addition to the ticket, DR was asked to produce a clarification video containing an apology to the public for his actions, which had caused public concern.

“The driver has produced a clarification video containing an apology and thanks to the police,” said Adi.
