A female Russian tourist was found floating in the waters off Parangtritis Beach, Kretek, Bantul. A search and rescue team transported the tourist to hospital, but medical staff subsequently confirmed that she had died.

According to Sektiaji Bagus, coordinator of the search and rescue operation at Satlinmas Rescue Special Region III Parangtritis, the incident began when the victim, Liudmila Papenina (50), a Russian national who had been holidaying in Indonesia for one month with five companions, was on her final day of leave. The group had arrived at Parangtritis Beach on Sunday evening (1 March) and were conducting activities at the beach on Monday morning around 10.00 Western Indonesia Time.

The victim separated from her companions to take photographs with horses at the beach. However, approximately ten minutes later, the victim was missing from the photography location. Her companions initiated a search, and one of them spotted the victim floating motionless in the waters off Parangtritis Beach.

The victim’s companions immediately attempted to provide assistance. Upon learning of the incident, the search and rescue team and Jogo Segoro personnel assisted with the evacuation. The victim was brought to the shoreline and then transported to the Parangtritis SAR Command Post.

The victim received cardiopulmonary resuscitation from her companions; however, as she showed no signs of improvement, staff immediately transported her to Panembahan Senopati Hospital in Bantul. The hospital subsequently declared the victim deceased.
