Russian Foreign Ministry: US Has Not Yet Invited Putin to G20 Summit

Russia has not yet received an invitation from the United States for President Vladimir Putin to attend the G20 summit in the US, Marat Berdyev, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s special ambassador for G20 and APEC, told RIA Novosti in an interview. “In accordance with the long-standing tradition of the G20, such invitations are sent out closer to the summit, about one to one and a half months in advance,” Berdyev said. He explained that the invitation plays a protocol role within the G20, demonstrating respect to partners in the format and conveying the details of the upcoming meeting. “The point is to secure the event in the schedules of international leaders,” Berdyev added. The G20 summit is scheduled to take place in Miami on 14-15 December.
