Russian Envoy Says US Threats Ineffective Against Iran
Russian envoy Mikhail Ulyanov has called on the United States to cease extortion and ultimatums in its negotiations with Iran, urging the abandonment of such negotiation tactics.
The US is accustomed to negotiating from a position of strength, threatening the use of military force or tightening sanctions. It is clear that this scheme does not work with Iran,” he wrote on X, as reported by Al Jazeera on Monday (27/4/2026).
“The best approach for the US in the current situation is to abandon all elements of its position that resemble extortion, ultimatums, and deadlines,” he added.
It is known that the US war alongside Israel against Iran has no certain end. US President Donald Trump’s envoy cancelled a trip to Islamabad, Pakistan, for the second round of peace negotiations with Iran.
Trump emphasised that the cancellation of the envoy’s planned visit to Pakistan for peace talks with Iran does not mean the US-Israel war against the Islamic Republic will resume immediately.
According to AFP on Saturday (25/4), the White House stated that Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, would head to Pakistan’s capital to hold “direct talks” with the Iranian side, hoped to “push progress towards an agreement”.
Shortly before that announcement, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi concluded a diplomatic visit to Islamabad after meeting with Pakistan’s military chief Asim Munir, a key figure in mediation efforts, as well as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
However, Trump stated to Fox News that he had cancelled the trip.
“We hold all the cards. They can contact us anytime, but there’s no need to fly 18 hours just to sit and talk about nothing,” Trump said, quoting his statement to his team.
Currently, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has also left Pakistan. He departed for Russia to discuss a ceasefire and the Iranian situation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
