Russian envoy: Iran will notify IAEA if radiation levels exceed limits
Vienna (ANTARA) - Russia’s permanent representative to the international organisations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, told RIA Novosti in an interview that he is confident Iran will notify the IAEA if radiation levels at its facilities exceed limits.
“Regarding radiation contamination, there are Iranian institutions that, of course, measure radiation levels and, if they exceed the limits, will inform the IAEA Secretariat. I think we can be confident of that,” Ulyanov said.
He recalled that Iran’s diplomatic mission to the IAEA is still operational, and contact between the two parties remains established in Vienna.
“For example, Iran was the first party to report the attack on the Bushehr nuclear power plant and the Natanz nuclear facility,” the Russian diplomat said.
“They conveyed this information to the agency’s Secretariat. And they will continue to do so as needed,” he added.
On 28 February, the US and Israel began attacking targets in Iran, including Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties.
Iran carried out retaliatory strikes against military targets in Israeli territory, as well as US military facilities in the Middle East.
