Russian Elderly Man Dragged Out to Sea by Currents While Surfing at Lebih Beach, Gianyar

An elderly Russian national named Iurii Orlov was evacuated from the sea at Lebih Beach, Lebih Village, Gianyar. The 64-year-old man is believed to have grown exhausted while surfing and was swept away by the current. The Gianyar Police water unit (Satpolairud Polres Gianyar) attended to the Russian national who was adrift. The incident occurred at 08:30 WITA. Suardita said Orlov was initially surfing. It is suspected that fatigue caused the elderly foreigner to drift farther from the shore. Fortunately, a fisherman named Agus Putra Yohana (34) saw Orlov lying unconscious, floating at sea. He helped by lifting Orlov onto his boat. Orlov was then brought to the shore by Yohana for medical assistance. Budarasa said Orlov was still alive after being rescued from the sea. The elderly foreigner had only minor cuts on his hand, after being examined by medical personnel who happened to be on the scene. The victim subsequently received initial medical examination by a nurse who happened to be present at the location. He was reported safe and had received initial treatment. Budarasa said the sea conditions at the beach were monitored as safe and conducive. He also urged visitors engaging in water sports to always check the weather and sea currents for safety. “We have also coordinated with hotels in the Nusa Dua area so that the victim can be collected promptly and receive further treatment,” he said.
