Russian Drone Strike Hits Bus in Ukraine, 4 Killed

A Russian drone strike hit a bus travelling along a road in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson on Wednesday (19/8). At least four people were killed and four others injured in Moscow’s latest attack.

Kherson, which was under Moscow’s control from March to November 2022, is frequently targeted by Russian forces using drones in their attacks. Ukraine accuses these strikes of deliberately targeting civilians.

“Russian military forces attacked a bus travelling on a Kherson road using a drone,” the regional prosecutor’s office said in a statement, as reported by AFP on Wednesday (19/8/2026).

“As a result of the attack, according to initial information, four civilian passengers were killed,” the statement said.

The local prosecutor’s office added that four other people were injured.

Kherson Governor Oleksandr Prokudin posted photographs showing the condition of the bus with its windows shattered after being hit by the drone strike.

Earlier this month, Ukraine accused Russia of pursuing a man at a street market in the Kherson area using a remotely controlled First Person View (FPV) drone.

Kyiv authorities described such actions as a “safari” targeting civilians.

The city of Kherson had a population of around 280,000 before the war broke out.

Russian forces, pushed back from Kherson by a Ukrainian counter-offensive in autumn 2022, now occupy positions on the opposite bank of the Dnieper River that flows through the city.

The United Nations (UN) has reported an increase in civilian deaths in the conflict throughout 2026, as the war continues into its fourth and a half year with no sign of a peace agreement being reached.
