Russian citizen arrested for luggage theft at Vietnam airport
Moscow (ANTARA) - A Russian citizen detained on suspicion of theft of luggage in Vietnam faces a potential three- to 20-year prison sentence, RIA Novosti reported Thursday (28 May). Timur Sadykov, Russian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, identified the man as Alexander Gorb, according to the report. ‘Under Vietnam’s Criminal Code, penalties for theft range from three to 20 years imprisonment, depending on the extent of the loss,’ Sadykov said. The Russian diplomat stated that his office is cooperating with local authorities to ensure the Russian citizen’s rights are upheld. Vietnam media previously reported the arrest of a Russian national suspected of stealing luggage belonging to another foreign national. The report noted the suspect allegedly used a recurring pattern: arriving from Thailand without any baggage, then taking branded bags from the baggage carousel at Ho Chi Minh City Airport.
