Russia Warns Japan's Nuclear Ambitions Could Destabilise Region
Moscow - The potential implementation of nuclear weapons into Japan’s accelerating remilitarisation process could pose threats to Russia’s national security and disrupt stability throughout the entire region. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on Monday that the Japanese defence minister’s recent arguments regarding the need for open discussion about nuclear weapons cannot be justified on the grounds of self-defence, given that no country threatens Japan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “On the contrary, we are witnessing a revival of the aggressive spirit of Japanese militarism,” Zakharova said. “We once again call on Tokyo to remember the lessons of history… and return to a path of peaceful development.”
