Russia: US Seriously Considering Use of Nuclear Weapons in Europe

Moscow (ANTARA) - Russia believes that several factors indicate the United States is seriously considering the use of nuclear weapons within the military operations theatre in Europe, stated Andrey Belousov, Ambassador for Special Assignments for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Speaking of this danger, it is impossible to ignore Washington’s persistence in attempting to initiate discussions regarding Russia’s non-strategic nuclear weapons—which, I emphasise once again, do not pose a threat to US territory—in various multilateral disarmament forums,” Belousweg said in an interview with RT.

According to the senior diplomat, this indicates that US military strategists are seriously considering the possibility of using nuclear weapons in the European theatre of military operations.

Belousov stated that Washington’s efforts to push for discussions on Russia’s non-strategic nuclear weapons are aimed at diverting attention from the dangers posed by US nuclear weaponry in Europe and the country’s nuclear missile programme.

“I hope Europe fully realises the danger of Washington’s approach towards the territories of its allies, which is purely practical in terms of military operational planning,” Belousov remarked.

Previously, the Pentagon announced that US Deputy Secretary of Defense for Policy, Elbridge Colby, had arrived in Europe to consult with military and political leaders of allied nations and to promote the US ‘NATO 3.0’ initiative.
